Natural Stones in the City

It’s a tale full of mysteries and secrets. The various natural building stones in the city of Hanover testify to the changeful curriculum vitae of rocks. All rocks are created from cooled lava and ash, were weathered, and deposited in the smallest parts and then re-melted. They are classified as volcanic rocks as sedimentary or metamorphic rocks. They are in a long-lasting process of creation, dissolution, transformation and re-creation. These changes may take place violently and catastrophically or over very long periods of time almost unnoticed. We try to comprehend the eternal cycle of rocks with you with the beautiful natural stone facades in central Hanover. Join us on an entertaining way from the Künstlerhaus (‘Artisans House’) in Sophien Street along the Landschaft Street to the Georgs Wall, where the relics of the old medieval town wall of Hanover are still visible. From there the trail leads to the church of St. Aegidii over to the Art Gallery KUBUS on Theodor-Lessing-Platz, where the walk ends.
